Turbo Tabla visits Pittsburgh twice!

Amethyst is a huge fan of native Egyptian musician Turbo Tabla, and has organized/sponsored his first-2-ever visits to Pittsburgh in February and August, 2006. During each visit, Turbo Tabla headlined a performance party and taught incredible workshops for dancers. Amethyst feels that the education Turbo Tabla provides is essential for any bellydancer who would like to advance his/her knowledge of Arabic music and dance! You can learn more about Turbo Tabla by visiting his website: www.TurboTabla.com.
ElectroBelly Review
Current News!: ElectroBelly 2, the second in a series of bellydance and electronic music events organized by Amethyst, will take place on Friday, January 26, 2007 at the Rex (south side of Pittsburgh) from 8 p.m.-Midnight (21+ only, it's a bar)! The show has a great storyline of technology versus nature, including dancers Amethyst, Shanti and Astarte. DJ Paul Alexander will spin tribal house and industrial sounds for open dance floor sets. Musician Maurice Rickard will play a live trance-electronica set, with a live vocalist and more! The dance trio will record at this event for their upcoming dvd "ElectroBelly"! You can reserve your copy at the show, or by visiting the Events Page.
Past Review: ElectroBelly 1, held on July 21, 2006, was a unique, creative experience blending various forms of electronic music with vocals, bellydance, raver-dancing, prop dancing, breakdancing and a dj'd open dance floor before and after the show! This event was a success, drawing a crowd of 88 audience members.
The show started with a live electronic set by Maurice Rickard, singer Asha Black, and dancers Amethyst and Vitriol. Then, many local bellydancers and ravers danced to various forms of electronica. Each dance projected it's own feelings--sassy and classy, funky, flirtatious, energetic, and entrancing.
Before and after the show, DJ's Paul Alexander and Billy Wegs spun electronic records which included some amazing tribal sounds which helped to create the exciting atmosphere of ElectroBelly. VJ Jeremy projected fun visuals onto a large screen to enhance the ElectroBelly experience.
Dancers in the show included Amethyst, Vitriol, Astarte, MaryPat Werry, Beth DeFilippo, Rachel Zubrow, Kari Merlina, Sterling Painton, Samniang Promlee, Joanna Abel, Megan Irvine, VJ Jeremy, and Asha Black.
ElectroBelly shirts and vegan baked goods were sold by The Vegan Goddess. Hula Hoops for the open dance floor were provided by Amethyst.
ElectroBelly was the first in a series of ElectroBelly events, organized by Amethyst. ElectroBelly 2 will most likely happen here in Pittsburgh before the end of winter. Details will be posted as plans are created.

Amethyst was Emily's pre-school teacher years ago; and Emily was one of the brightest and caring children in the class!
Amethyst organized "Emily's Party", a bellydance benefit show, which raised around $400 towards Emily's trip!
You can donate to Emily via paypal, through (www.SendEmilyToDC.com).
"Elements" Student Dance Show was a success!
"Elements"-Dances to Honor Earth, Air, Fire and Water, was held on April 28, 2006 at the Union Project. The event was organized by Amethyst, and hosted by Maya B. The event was a great success, having over 100 audience members, and helping with costs for an upcoming event "ElectroBelly". All of the dancers in the show did a wonderful job at dancing beautiful interpretations of the Elements. Amethyst would like to thank all of the students and teachers who participated in the show, as well as the vendors, host, and others who helped! Sree's Foods provided incredible vegan Indian food and sold out! Emily Putnam raised $130 toward her educational trip at the raffle table! Thanks to all who supported Emily's cause and Pittsburgh bellydance events!
